Why it Matters

Education is more than grades. It's growth, curiosity, and the support we give each other along the way. But in Cleveland — a city where educational inequity runs deep — too many young people are growing up without the resources, mentorship, and opportunity they deserve.

In January 2026, YouthServeCLE packed three service events into one month. Students volunteered at the Kids Book Bank, boxing up thousands of free books for Cleveland children who need them. One post captured the energy perfectly: "YSCLE 1 // Box of books 0." They showed up at West Side Market to support the reopening of the revamped Produce Stand — sorting vegetables, setting up displays, and helping one of Cleveland's greatest public markets come back stronger than ever.

Kids Book Bank alone distributes 500,000+ books annually to children who might otherwise never own one. That's the kind of impact a few hours of student service can multiply.

Our Partners

Kids' Book Bank

Kids' Book Bank fosters a love of reading by distributing free, high-quality books to the children who need them most. Every child deserves access to the transformative power of books, and Kids' Book Bank makes that happen at scale. Since their founding, they've distributed millions of books to children across Northeast Ohio through schools, shelters, and community partners. YouthServeCLE volunteered in January 2026, boxing up hundreds of books to be sent directly to Cleveland kids in underserved communities.

Breakthrough Public Schools

Breakthrough Public Schools is a network of high-performing, tuition-free public charter schools serving students across Cleveland's most under-resourced neighborhoods. Their schools consistently outperform state averages in academic achievement and college readiness for low-income students. Volunteers can support tutoring programs, extracurricular events, and special projects that enrich the student experience.

West Side Market

The West Side Market is Cleveland's oldest and most iconic public market, a century-old institution that supports over 100 local vendors selling fresh produce, meats, baked goods, and specialty foods. Located in the heart of Ohio City, it serves as both a community gathering place and a vital access point for fresh, affordable food. YouthServeCLE has partnered with West Side Market community programs to support local food access and neighborhood vitality initiatives.
